Question:
Did a priest have a rope tied around his foot when he entered the Holy of
Holies?
Answer:
No. Nowhere does the Old Testament or the New Testament say that a priest had a
rope tied around his foot so they could pull him out if he had a heart attack
in the Holy of Holies. Rather, this idea comes from Jewish mystical circles
from around a thousand years ago. (It is unfortunate that the rope notion gets
repeated in Bible colleges and pulpits on a regular basis.)
